About us

From Project Drawdown’s initial collaborative research project on the most substantive solutions to reverse global warming and subsequent worldwide interest in adopting drawdown as a framework for local and national action comes Project Drawdown Europe, an initiative of the German Energy Agency (dena), European Climate Foundation and Climate-KIC.

What is Project Drawdown

Drawdown in the context of climate is that point in time at which the atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases peaks and begins to decline on a year-to-year basis. Project Drawdown is a nonprofit organisation, founded in 2013, that wants to make drawdown a key goal for humanity and encourage action to achieve it.

Drawdown – a global project

Drawdown began as an idea, but grew to be an international phenomenon. Beyond an international agreement to limit rising global temperatures, and beyond sustainable business practices lies Drawdown, a global collaborative movement, rooted at the community level, working together and looking forward toward a regeneration of our world.

Drawdown – the book

Drawdown maps, measures, models, and describes the 100 most substantive solutions to global warming. The goal of the research that informs Drawdown is to determine if we can reverse the buildup of atmospheric carbon within thirty years. All solutions modeled are already in place, well understood and analyzed based on peer-reviewed science.

Project Drawdown: Europe takes a new perspective on climate protection

Why Drawdown Europe?

The objective of Drawdown Europe is to better unite researchers, activists, business-leaders, politicians, policymakers and organizations in order to strengthen and give more voice to the European coalition of those working toward reversing global warming – including strengthening research, innovation, funding, political agendas and public awareness.

Drawdown Europe joins a host of Drawdown “hubs” forming in the United States, Canada and Australia, and is a significant expansion of the global Drawdown coalition that to date includes universities, research institutions, NGOs, investors, philanthropists, museums, businesses and others who have committed to a collaborative approach to implementing solutions.
